Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google based on the linux kernal. Before google bought android it was lead by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White. Founded in October 2003.  In July 2005, Google acquired Android Inc. Today android is the most popular mobile operating system.

Android is free. since the day it was launched, OS was  available free of cost and Google made it clear that it will be free in future as well.  Unlike other operating systems that are protected by lots of copyrights, Google chose to keep Android open for all. This made developers around the world to customize OS. Device manufacturers are free to modify Android as per their needs. Android Market created an opportunity for millions of application developers around the globe to show their skills and come up with newer applications for Android phones.

History

Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White are the ones who founded the Android.inc in Palo Alto, California  October 2003.The early intentions of the company were to develop an advanced operating system for digital cameras. The company then decided that the market for cameras was not large enough for its goals, and by five months later it had diverted its efforts and was pitching Android as a handset operating system that would rival Symbian and Microsoft Windows Mobile. At first Rubin found it difficult to find investors, not only that during that period they were evicted from their office space. With those difficulties and with help of friends company move forward. Later Google bought Android Inc. for $50 million with it's employees. Rubin, Miner and White, joined Google as part of the acquisition in July 2005.  At Google, the team led by Rubin developed a mobile device platform powered by the Linux kernel. Today Android is the most popular and used mobile operating system.
